5-Day Rifle Instructor fundamentals
***Previous experience handling a rifle is strongly encouraged***
This five-day course prepares the law enforcement firearms instructor to teach the
fundamentals of operating the law enforcement rifle. Successful completion of
this course enables firearms instructors to qualify rifle operators under the NJ attorney general’s current qualification guidelines. **Successful completion of this course will also certify instructors to conduct Semi-Automatic Carbine qualifications**
Instruction includes nomenclature, general maintenance, malfunction clearance, semi-automatic and fully automatic trigger manipulation drills, shooting on the move, use of cover, and other street relevant applications.
Requirements to attend: Candidates must have previously attended a Firearms Instructor Course and provide a copy of the certificate confirming successful completion of that course to be admitted.
Successful completion of the course requires candidates to achieve a minimum score of 90% on the Automatic/Semi-Automatic Police Service Rifle Qualification Course (ARQC). Achieve a minimum score of 80% on a low light qualification course Demonstrate safe handling skills of the rifle from the standing, kneeling, and prone positions, and pass a written examination.
Necessary equipment includes:
Police service/assault rifle with sling (AR15-M4 style preferred other variants are welcome)
Minimum of 3 large capacity magazines!
Flashlight attached to the rifle for low light/night fire exercises
Department issued pistol, at least 2 magazines, and holster
200 rounds of handgun ammunition
1000 (minimum) rounds of rifle ammunition
Wrap around eye protection for day and night fire
Hearing protection, Hat with brim, and Vest
Cleaning kit and supplies and Sharpie or Magic Marker
Rain gear and any other appropriate clothing that provides protection from the elements
Optional equipment Shooting mat, Spotting scope or Binoculars Sun block
